The Garden Isle is a collection of work shaped from materials gathered along the coastline of the Isle of Wight.
This piece is formed from clay collected at Alum Bay, a striking stretch of the island known for its vividly coloured sands and clays. The large vessel has been crafted using one of the bay’s rich pink-red clays, giving it a warm, earthy depth of colour.
Its textured surface draws from natural details observed along the shoreline, including, seaweed washed across the sand, scattered stones, and the weathered impressions found within coastal rocks. A dark natural glaze, created using gathered local materials, has been worked into the deeper crevices of the piece, enhancing its layered texture and grounding it in the landscape from which it came.
