Thames Matter is a collection of work created through collecting both materials and inspiration directly from the River Thames foreshore.
These pieces, titled Thames Matters: Wall Spoil, are inspired by the fragments of glass and discarded materials found scattered along the Thames foreshore. As the tide moves in and out, pieces of weathered glass and debris are revealed amongst the mud and stones, creating traces of the human activity that has accumulated along the river. The wall-hung pieces are made in various sizes, with glass shards and Thames slip incorporated into their surfaces. The glass catches the light against the bubbling and ruptured qualities of the slip, creating a contrast between areas of shine and areas of texture. Together, the pieces form a collection of fragments that reflect the varied and unexpected materials found along the foreshore.
