Thames Matter is a collection of work created through collecting both materials and inspiration directly from the River Thames foreshore.
This piece, titled Thames Matters: Shards, is inspired by the fragments of glass found scattered along the foreshore. As the tide moves in and out, small pieces of weathered glass are revealed, catching the light and shining amongst the mud, stones and debris. I was drawn to the way these shards are embedded within the landscape, partially concealed yet still visible. I recreated this sense of scattered fragments within the vessel, embedding pieces of found glass into the surface to reflect the textures, patterns and unexpected flashes of light found along the Thames foreshore.
