Thames Matter is a collection of work created through collecting both materials and inspiration directly from the River Thames foreshore.
This piece, titled Thames Matters: Screw, is inspired by a small screw found along the Thames foreshore. The lidded vessel features a ruptured, bubbling texture and tones that reflect the colours and surfaces found along the foreshore. The remains of the found screw have been incorporated into the piece, with the top of the screw melted through firing. The contrast between the small industrial fragment and the natural, unpredictable surface of the vessel reflects the mixture of human-made and natural materials found along the Thames.
