Thames Matter is a collection of work created through collecting both materials and inspiration directly from the River Thames foreshore.
This piece, titled Thames Matters: Rough, is inspired by the rough, weathered surface of a large rock found along the Thames foreshore. I was drawn to the irregular texture of the rock, shaped and worn over time by the movement of the river and its changing environment. I recreated this coarse, uneven surface within the vessel, using a combination of London clay, found along the Thames, and black stoneware.
