Thames Matter is a collection of work created using materials gathered along the River Thames.
The base of this piece is commercial stoneware whilst the decorative details are created by the river itself. I take the pieces down to the foreshore in East London, near my studio, and use a paintbrush to loosely splash clay mixed with water gathered from different points along the Thames. The work is then fired at high temperatures, revealing unique surfaces that carry traces of the river whilst echoing the river’s textures, tones and overall essence.
