It had a large X spray painted onto it, which was faded yet still visible. It made me think about the black death and how the mark was painted onto peoples doors who were thought to have had the plague. The glistening marks reflect the varied turns, twists and trails of discarded fabric which can be spotted at low tide. They discolour, gather mud and become tangled and ripped. They have been finished using a unique ash glaze recipe that combines Thames Clay with Birch Wood Ash. The glaze has been applied to the top of the pieces, when fired, it slowly runs down the pieces, creating multi tonal iridescent black and brown and shimmering pooling effect, some have areas of a blistered white bubbling effect. Each piece has been stamped at the base using a blue underglaze, rather than my standard stamp.
